Fordhall Farm - Owned by You Arthur's Plough 2008 Arthur’s Plough is back on stage! The Fordhall Story in a fantastically funny Play with Music. Fordhall Farm is to be put firmly back on the theatrical map this summer with a brand new version of the county’s legendary play about Fordhall Farm. “Arthur’s Plough – 2008” will be performed in the garden at Fordhall Farm near Market Drayton for two week in late June and early July, before going on to be a key element of the Shrewsbury Summer Season. Hard-won ArtsCouncil Funding has enabled author Chris Eldon Lee to revive and substantially revise the musical play, first performed in 1991. The original show was given 16 performances, including two in Market Drayton and four at the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle Under Lyme. Every performance sold out. The play’s subject, veteran organic farmer Arthur Hollins, brought his children Ben (then 7) and Charlotte (9) to every performance. Having saved their father’s farm for the nation, Ben and Charlotte Hollins - now in their 20s - persuaded Chris to re-embark on the project. ‘Arthur’s Plough - 2008’ will be performed under professional direction and management by a dozen of the best community actors in Shropshire, accompanied by the “Mere Singers” choir, which is being expanded for the occasion. Anyone wishing to sing in the show should ring Mary Keith on 01948 710 586. To help in any other way, please ring Fordhall Farm on the number below. This will be a tremendous play and tickets are restricted. To ensure you get yours BOOK THEM EARLY! Author, Chris Eldon Lee says, “It’s a warm, loving and humorous play, expanded to tell both Fordhall’s pioneering stories. It has its serious moments, but the emphasis is very much on using comedy to unearth the story beyond the TV soundbite. There will definitely be singing pigs and dancing microbes.” |
