Breakfast on the Farm! 22nd January 2012 - 28th January 2012

As part of national Farmhouse Breakfast Week - Shake up your Wake up - we will have special offers on our breakfast menu. Our breakfast menu includes porridge, toast baps and the full english cooked breakfast. All made using local and/or organic ingredients at great value. With every breakfast item purchased from 9.30am-12pm this week, we will give you as much free tea and coffee. as you can drink!

PLUS on Thurs 26th Jan and Fri 27th there will be guided walks followed by a cooked organic/local food buffet breakfast. The walks will begin at 9am and must be booked in advance as places are limited. £10 per person.

FREE breakfast craft activities for children 10am - 12pm.

Volunteer Working Weekend 18th February 2012 - 19th February 2012

Come along and get stuck in with jobs around the farm.

Get mucky and have fun at the same time, whilst feeling the accomplishment of meeting new people and completing numerous tasks.

All food provided and spaces for people to sleep, if not come along and camp.

Meet other shareholders or people who love being at Fordhall and feel the magic which will hopefully keep you coming back!

Apple Grafting with Tom Adams 17th March 2012

Spend the day learning about apple grafting with Tom Adams. You will cover the principles of propagation, rootstock production and selection. Time will also be spent teaching you knife sharpening skills so you have the best tools for the job.

At the end of the day you will go home with 4 grafted apple trees.

The workshop will be from 10 am - 3 pm

Beginners Basket Weaving 24th March 2012

An opportunity to make your own willow basket. Taking place in our fantastic new classroom at Fordhall and run by experienced weavers Helen and Kevin Stanley. This is a day's workshop where you will learn about the art of basket weaving, some of the history behind basketry and you even get to take one home that you have made yourself! This course is always really popular so a great day is guaranteed!

The session is held from 10am till 4pm

£45.00 for the day, tea and coffee included. Lunch is not included although Helen and Kevin encourage participants to bring food to share, otherwise food is available in our lovely tea room.

Composting for success 31st March 2012

Are you unsure about how or what to compost? Is your compost heap tired and neglected? Want to change all that?

If so, come and learn how to turn muck into magic, saving you time and money!

AGM and Spring Fair 14th April 2012 - 15th April 2012

Come along on Saturday and see and hear about what changes are happening at Fordhall. As a shareholder we'd love to hear from you too. On Saturday evening join us for our Barn Dance at £10.00 a ticket.

On Sunday come along to our annual Spring Fair where there will be lots of tempting stalls full of the best local crafts and artisan foods. Don't forget to bring a big basket ready to buy lots of delicious produce! Also available will be freshly cooked pizza, Ben's delicious burgers and sausages and lots of other scrumptious food to eat!

Introduction to Hazel Hurdling 21st April 2012 - 22nd April 2012

This course is back by popular demand! Run by Alan Houseman, an experienced woodsman, hedgelayer and hurdler. This weekend will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the art of making wattle hurdles. Using simple weaving methods you will practise splitting hazel and setting up a mini - hurdle with a very simple starting weave. By the end of the weekend you will have made a small hurdle to take home.

10am to 4pm

£120.00 for the weekend. All materials are included in the price. Tools and equipment will be provide. Light refreshments also included.

Gardening with Herbs 28th April 2012

A day for beginners to learn about growing herbs - how to propagate them, what are the best growing conditions for herbs and how to use them in the kitchen and around the home. We will also have a walk around our organic farm to see what herbs grow wild that we can use, learning about tinctures and salves to make simple remedies that are safe to use. At the end of the day you will go home with a window box of herbs from our organic garden.

Dawn Chorus Walk 5th May 2012

Come along and celebrate Spring with a morning of birdsong. We will take you around the farm and identify all the different bird songs you may hear.

Introduction to Digital Photography and Editing 26th May 2012

Perfect for beginners - get to know your digital camera; take photographs at the farm and learn how to download, edit and manipulate your images to improve their appearance

Pizza Make and Bake 9th June 2012

This is always a popular event! A great day out for the family to learn how to make pizzas from scratch, cooking them outside in Fordhall's clay oven. Make your own pizzas for lunch with a salad freshly picked from our fabulous community garden.

Bread Making and Baking 23rd June 2012

A one day course learning how to make bread the natural way. Experiment with different dough; bake in our outdoor clay oven and take home what you have made, along with some sourdough starter and recipes.

10am to 4.30pm

£60 per person, booking is essential.

Summer Fair 24th June 2012

Our annual Summer Fair. So much to see and do! Tractor and Donkey rides, sack racing, face painting, wildlife activities, pizza making, clay sculpting, hawks on walks and for the first time we will be joined by Simon Airy displaying an array of reptiles and amphibians.

Another chance to try your hand at making your own pizza. A day for the family to learn how to make pizzas from scratch; cooking them in Fordhall's outdoor clay oven and making a salad to accompany it using freshly picked salad from our community growing area.

Outback2basics 8th July 2012

Join Outback2basics for a journey through the ages. Try your hand at working with rawhide to create either simple sandals or a rawhide container, make spoons using the traditional burning method, cook using hot rocks and experiment using stone and bone tools.

Outback2basics Family Day - Saturday 21st July

Come together as a family to learn traditional skills. Learn how to make fire using a natural method the way our ancestors did. Create a willow trug to collect your foraged goodies. Discover how to cook with no pots and pans and create a giant rope to test the family strength with a tug of war and family games. Join us for a fun day learning new outdoor skills.
