Another example of how you can get involved with YOUR Countryside. The Bryn Mawr Trust are selling not-for-profit shares to help secure a tenancy on 78 acres of fantastic Welsh land. Wye Community Land Trust: Another new example of a exciting initiative trying to save local land. They are selling not-for-profit shares to help secure a lease on the land for the community from Wye College, Kent. www.wyecommunitylandtrust.org.uk Land For People: This organisation exists to help communities in Wales, Shropshire and the Marches become more sustainable, with empasis on building affordable homes and helping to create Community Land Trusts. Charlotte Hollins is currently a director. Terres Fertiles: Established to raise fund to purchase farmland around Paris and create a sustainable future in the shape of Community Supported Agriculture projects. Willing Workers on Organic Farms WWOOF: This is a subscription organisation that provides you with volunteering opportunities across the UK on organic farms. Its a great resource and you get to travel for next to nothing. USEFUL ORGANISATIONS Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE): Tom Oliver, Head of Rural Policy at CPRE has been a great supporter of Fordhall for a long time. Tom has offereda huge amount of support and advice to the project, for which we will always be grateful. Leeside Wood Recycling Project. Operates from London recycling reclaimed woods and timbers. They have donated all the wood for our farm shop and all the recycled wood for our compost toilet - its worth a visit. They continue to support and advise the project, specifically related to wildlife and biodiversity management. www.shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk Soil Association: The key organisation in the UK promoting and researching organics and the importance of the soil. Friends of the Earth Plunkett Foundation: The Plunkett Foundation is an educational charity, based near Oxford in the UK, which supports the development of rural group enterprise world-wide.
OTHER We Want Real Food: The one stop website for all you need to know about real food. That is food grown locally, sustainably and most importantly heathily. WE WANT REAL FOOD sets out what we can do to win the fight back for food that will stop us being overfed and undernourished - in fact, for real food. Graham Harvey, agricultural editor for the Archers and author of the book 'We want real food', tells it how it is. Fordhall even gets a mention in his book! Ecosac UK: Frazer and Sue Walker live locally to Fordhall and produce compostable carrier bags and cuttley made from corn starch. This is a great little business and we have their kitchen compost caddies in the Farm Shop. Harvest Help: Harvest Help, also based in Shropshire, helps some of the poorest farmers in the world in Africa, to grow enough food to feed their family and earn a living. They work through local African partners to develop sustainable, long term solutions to poverty including small scale, organic farming. Fordhall and Harvest Help have a close working relationship which we hope will continue for many years to come - we also sell their cards in our farm shop. Taste of The Town Company (The Food Connection) A Market Drayton based not for profit company working to reconnect people with food and farming who have supported Fordhall Farm throughout. WFF Systems - for all your computer needs: This is a great company and we would reccommend it to anyone. Dylan Franklin has created our share database system at Fordhall completely free of charge. They amend items when needed and are only too happy to help. Plus, we could not ask for a better database. Organising 7000 individuals is not an easy task! Photo2 Images : Photo 2 is a family run local photography company based in Newport Shropshire. Mel, who runs the company has helped Fordhall on a number of occasions donating her time and skills to provide us with high quality photos for the web site and various leaflets and newsletters.
