Charlotte and Ben on Richard and Judy

For the second time, Ben and I travelled to London to film Richard and Judy Live on Channel 4 (see below).

Although a short interview, it was great fun and hopefully raised interest in the book and the farm – the canapé ‘s and free wine after the show were also a welcome bonus…

Ben also got to chat to Radio 1’s Sarah Cox about farming and Hereford Cows. So much so, that he convinced her to buy a book, and he must have been feeling confident with his celebrity status as he asked “Would you like me to sign that for you Sarah?”.

The publicity for the book has come to end now, but I am sure there will be more in the future as sales are going well through Bens online shop and Waterstones too have increased their order.

So, its back to the real world of farming at Fordhall Farm and the FCLI office admin, where Sophie had been holding everything together whilst we were away.

Ben is currently building a new butchery for his meats in the dutch barn and Libby, our gloucester old spot had 9 piglets over the weekend too. The fun never ends…

  1. I think what you have done is wonderful, as coming from the top of North Yorkshire I have had to witness a number of friends fold family farms over the past few years. What you and your brother have done is very inspiring, and I wish you (and your 800) all the success in the world.

    Best Regards

    Andrew

  2. Sophie and Charlotte,
Its good to see the farm is still alive and strong, looks as though everyone has been very busy. To this day whenever I tell stories of my trip to England, Fordhall is always at the top of the list for things I did. Hope to visit again someday, till then keep up the good work!

  3. Dear Charlotte and Ben

I just had to drop you a line to say how much I enjoyed your fantastic book. It arrived at exactly the right time as I had just finished reading your father’s book (which I bought on 1 July).

Your book was made all the more interesting for me because I’ve met you and I can picture the places that you’re talking about, but even if I didn’t know these things, I would still have devoured it. What an incredible story. Even though we came on board before you saved the farm (spring last year) I don’t think I’d fully grasped what a struggle it was for you and you get that across beautifully in the book. It’s like a steam train… starts off slowly and gathers speed to the extent that I just couldn’t put it down. I almost missed the stop on my train one day as I was so engrossed!

I am going to make sure that my entire family reads both books so that they can fully understand why we’re so immensely proud to be involved with you and the FCLI, both as shareholders and volunteers (albeit slack ones!) Better still, I’ll probably buy them all copies in order to boost the FCLI’s funds!

We’re sorry that we’re not going to be able to make the open day in August and we are routing for good weather for you. Surely, it can’t get any worse than what we have at the moment… I bet you’re glad you live on a hill (we do too!)

With best wishes to both of you and to Sophie too, who we know played a tremendous part in achieving your goal.
