Chicken Out

At Fordhall Farm we believe that intensive battery hen farming is wrong and cruel. Chcikens are naturally free-range and should be able to peck at the ground, feed on insects and roam in the sunshine.

As a result we are firmly behind Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls ‘Chicken Out’ campaign.

  1. Hear hear! I have a flock of 6 ex battery hens that were due to be slaughtered. I collected them in April 2008. They are living the life they should now.

Battery hens are classed as ‘spent’ and are sent to slaughter at around 18 months of age, never knowing what the sun or wind on their backs felt like, or never having the chance to scratch the ground for bugs. Well, my 6 girls laid a staggering 171 eggs in May! Great blog, enjoyed very much.
