Community right to buy proposal is ‘in jeopardy’, warns Locality

A proposed new law to make it easier for community groups to buy land is “in jeopardy” because of widespread misconceptions about how it would work, the community umbrella body Locality has warned.

The community ‘right to buy’ is one of the major proposals in the Localism Bill, due to be debated by the Lords today.

If this bill existed 5 years ago when Fordhall was in jeapardy, the landowner would have been forced to offer us the opportunity to buy Fordhall. This bill could offer communities thousands of opportunities to retain assets in their ownership for the good of the community.
