This was a wonderful trip. Julie, our guide was excellent. We all learned lots of new things. Julie introduced new vocabulary i.e. sow, boar, calf, ewe.  The children had an opportunity for free play too. This is an excellent venue for under-fives and I would recommend it to everyone.

20th May 2015 Gateway, Wem

Teenagers from Gateway, Shrewsbury visited the farm today for the second of their four summer term visits to Fordhall. Having all enjoyed a practical farm tour learning a little of our history and ethos last visit, today they arrived just in time to join the celebrations, with cake and pork pies, for Arthur’s 100th anniversary. The group then checked on the progress of a new born calf that they had seen last week before spending the afternoon in the woods toasting damper over a campfire.

“Three Year 3 classes have enjoyed a “Fordhall Farm Special Tearoom Experience ” this week. They were delighted to  role play extremely polite customers, while their teachers and other adults took on the part of professional waiters and waitresses!”

“Worthen Pre-School Group had a fabulous, hands-on day which included collecting lots of eggs, feeding corn to the hens, silage to the cattle and cabbage to the pigs. Children, leaders, parents and helpers charmed 8 worms out of the soil by dancing enthusiastically in the rain! After eating a picnic lunch, singing some songs and listening to a story, the children were delighted to meet some new born lambs and the lamb’s mothers in the lambing shed. (Two of the lambs had only just been born!)

The final task of cleaning boots in the boot washer turned out to be another fun activity before it was time to exchange “thank you’s” and “goodbye’s”, board the bus and head for home. Thank you Fordhall”
